Devil In The Detail SRD · The big news and Leeds Preview podcast   After the baking hot temperatures this week the Salford players arrived at Headingley to a slightly cooler one with hazy skies above. With three wins from their last four matches things were looking slightly brighter for Richard Marshall after a testing few months. The Red Devils could take plenty of positives from their recent performances and with players returning from injury and suspensions the squad was looking a lot healthier.  Their seemed a real anticipation prior to kick off with this being one of the first games after crowd restrictions.  Salford made a few changes from last Friday’s victory over Wakefield with Lee Mossop and Jack Wells both returning to the starting lineup. Harvey Livett replaced Matty Costello in the centres. New signing Ata Hingano started on the bench. Salford were looking to add to there recent 2019 victory in this fixture but as long suffering supporters know only to well the clubs rec

Devil In The Detail SRD · Richard Marshall pre match interview Leeds away This time last month Salford’s season was floating aimlessly down stream like driftwood approaching a waterfall. Rugby league can change so quickly, form can go from one extreme to another. After three wins from our last four matches Richard Marshall and his side are now aiming up the table and aren’t to far off the teams directly above them. Two wins on the trot against Castleford and Wakefield has boosted confidence. Don’t let the press fool you to much. Yes Castleford were under strength but just look at what Salford have been dealing with. The list of players we’ve had missing is as long as your arm and not to mention the struggles with the virus, players isolating and not able to train along with new players coming in on loan. St.Helens and Kristian Woolf deserve a pat on the back for working with us on the loan front and so do Warrington. With players returning from suspension now this will also help our

Devil In The Detail SRD · Big win at Cas now ready to take on Trinity As the North West basked in glorious sunshine this extra special Rugby League weekend began at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington. With the Challenge Cup Final and 1895 Cup Final taking place tomorrow at Wembley the Friday night fixtures added to the excitement. Salford’s pitch at the AJ Bell Stadium was undergoing maintenance hence this home fixture against Wakefield Trinity being moved down the road to Warrington.  After Sunday’s victory at Castleford the Red Devil’s welcomed back Joe Burgess, Tui Lolohea and Sebastine Ikahihifo to the squad. Declan Patton had begun to form a promising partnership at halfback with Chris Atkin but Patton had to miss out this week due to Covid protocol.  For supporters who have that bit of anorak in them they will remember that Salford played Wakefield at Leigh for the final game of the 2012 season. Trinity won that night 34-42. Richard Marshall made just one change to his s

Devil In The Detail SRD · Paul King & George Harborne Stadium meeting interview   A lot was made of Castleford decision to rest players ahead of their match with Salford. One thing that should be noted though is that the Red Devils had around a dozen first choice players missing through injury and suspension. Add to that the lack of training due to Covid protocol it’s fair to say Richard Marshall’s week had been a testing one. Salford had to draft in loan players to get a squad together with Ben Davies returning for a second spell with the club. Dan Norman started on the bench having also been loaned from St.Helens with Davies.  The Tigers got off to the perfect start when Grant Millington took a flat pass to crash over through some disappointing Salford defence.  Jack Ormondroyd responded for Salford continuing his good form to score a try from close range.  Chances were limited in the first quarter before Morgan Escare raced away after picking up a loose pass. The referee broug

Devil In The Detail SRD · Richard Marshall Pre Match Press conference v Castleford Both sides have been without matches in recent weeks. Castleford’s matches with St.Helens and Huddersfield were postponed with the Tigers picking up two points and a 24-0 win from the Giants fixture. On the other hand they lost the two points from the Saints fixture. After a controversial and incident packed match with Leeds which Salford lost three players to suspension the Red Devil’s next two matches with Wakefield and Hull respectively were both postponed. The Wakefield match has now been rearranged. Richard Marshall has a least had a bit of time to prepare for this Sunday’s match at Wheldon Road. Castleford have a date at Wembley a week on Saturday in the Challenge Cup Final. That makes this weekends match that little bit more intriguing. Some may say the Castleford players will want to avoid injury and Salford should get the win. For me though if I was a Tigers player I’d want to have a stormer
