Devil In The Detail SRD · Big Match Preview Salford V Leeds + Richard Marshall interview   After last weeks heroics at Huddersfield it was a return to home comforts for Salford as they met Leeds in a Sunday lunchtime kick off. Once again Salford coach Richard Marshall was forced to make changes and their were one or two surprises. Tui Lolohea came in at fullback for the suspended Dan Sarginson. Morgan Escare started on the wing in place of Ken Sio. Sio played on Friday night for the Combined Nations team. Matty Costello made a welcome return from injury to start in the centres. Their was one change in the pack with Oliver Roberts promoted from the bench to start in the second row. Sam Luckley and Ryan Lannon were both back in the team as substitutes with Greg Burke, James Greenwood and Sebastine Ikahihifo missing out. Leeds had a strong side out with Luke Gale and Mikolaj Oledzki in the starting line up, both were backing up from international duty less than forty eight hours ago.  T

Devil In The Detail SRD · Celebrating a huge win podcast   My dad is always telling me old sayings that he uses in Rugby League and life in general. When referring to his old Gas Board days “your only as good as your last weld” is one. For Salford though one he uses a lot is “your only as good as your last match.” This one really sums up the last few weeks. After conceding over a hundred points in the matches against Warrington and Hull Kingston Rovers, Salford arrived in West Yorkshire for Friday’s fixture with Huddersfield firmly nestled behind the eight ball. A terrific defensive display full of grit and determination saw the Red Devils come away with a heroic victory.  This seemed against the odds at half time after James Greenwood was shown the red card. The result has given the club a huge boost. It was great to see Richard Marshall smiling at full time and I must admit I felt quite emotional for him and the players. I didn’t agree with some of Huddersfield coach Ian Watson’s c

Devil In The Detail SRD · BIG MATCH PREVIEW WITH RICHARD MARSHALL - HUDDERSFIELD V SALFORD   In the week building up to the match a lot of the talk seemed to be around Ian Watson facing his former club and how the supporters would react. For Salford though they had to concentrate on the task in hand. They owed themselves, Richard Marshall and the Salford supporters redemption after two woeful performances in recent weeks. Perhaps Watson’s departure from Salford wasn’t ideal. With the restrictions last year the supporters couldn’t say fair well either and it seemed to end a little soar. Watson worked wonders at Salford with the team reaching two major finals and some of the results and performances away from home particularly in the 2019 season helped to put the club and the City on the map. Every coach in Super League is under pressure to perform and Marshall has taken the blame and the brunt of the criticism following the defeat at Hull Kingston Rovers. He was very noble and loyal t

Devil In The Detail SRD · BIG MATCH PREVIEW WITH RICHARD MARSHALL - HUDDERSFIELD V SALFORD Last Friday was a tough defeat to take for the Salford supporters. After a bright start the whole momentum of the match seemed to change after Chris Atkin was sin binned. In my opinion the referee Chris Kendall got that decision completely wrong. It was a terrific tackle and clever ball steal from Atkin and he didn’t deserve to leave the field. That incident can not be blamed for how the match played out though. So many error yet again, kicking the ball out on the full from the kick off not once but twice. Players switching off, missing tackles and the attack was very poor with the ball landing in touch on a few occasions where we should of done better.  It’s hard to pin point the problem at the moment for Richard Marshall to put right. The team are desperately low on confidence and you can see that when they play. Frustration is creeping in to the matches which is leaving us on the wrong side

Devil In The Detail SRD · Enjoy the pressure and win Podcast   After a week off for the Cup Semi finals last weekend Richard Marshall’s Salford side arrived in East Hull looking to put a few things right. The coach, players and supporters were after a positive response after a dismal performance against Warrington a fortnight ago.  Hull Kingston Rovers have been in good form of late playing to their strengths and springing a few surprises along the way. Head coach Tony Smith has got his side playing with confidence. Their maybe one or two question marks around the Robins defence but with ball in hand they are more than capable of scoring plenty of points. Salford have been hit hard by injuries so far this season with Kallum Watkins, Danny Addy and Kevin Brown all needing operations. The trio will be out for the next few months which is tough on the squad.  Marshall was again forced to make changes to his side with Joe Burgess and Ben Davies making their debuts. Ken Sio moved to the ce

Devil In The Detail SRD · Enjoy the pressure and win Podcast   Hull Kingston Rovers v Salford. The way results turned out in the last round of Super League matches the pressure has cranked up another notch for Richard Marshall’s Salford side. Wakefield and Hull Kingston Rovers both recorded big victories over Huddersfield and Leigh respectively leaving Salford and the Centurions stuck in the bottom two positions on the League ladder. Leigh have yet to record a victory in their opening eight matches and Salford have only one win to their name. Both sides have by far the poorest defences in the League and with the sides directly above starting to pick points up the danger of being cut adrift is a fairly serious one.  Salford now face two sides from outside the top six in their next two matches however both are away from home. First up Hull Kingston Rovers then follows a trip to Huddersfield to face Ian Watson’s Giants side.  In my opinion I don’t think it’s a time to panic. Salford hav
