Salford Red Devils ladies started their 2023 pre season campaign with defeat against Wigan Warriors. Sage Bannister made her debut at Fullback with other new signings Sam Evans, Ellie Walsh, Summer Harris and Liana Leota coming off the bench. The 1st 20 minutes both played some tough rugby with Salford's Winger Lauren Ellison wearing a war wound on her forehead from a tough tackle, With the Super League season not too far away and Wigan being one of Chris Bates ladies opponents in the challenge cup it was a good workout despite defeat.  Salford fullback and new signing Sage Bannister was harshly shown the yellow card for holding down in the tackle after a break from Grace Banks but despite Salford numerical disadvantage they took the lead in spectacular fashion right away, Wigan were pressing the Salford defence debutant Liana Leota read the play, intercepted a wayward pass to race 70 metres to the line to put Salford on the board. Devil In The Detail SRD · The Big Match chat with Paul Rowley and Chris Bates Salford Red Devils started their 2023 Challenge cup adventure with a defeat against one of the competition’s favourites Featherstone Rovers. Salford started with new signing Liana Liota in the 2nd row, Sam Evans and Louise Fellingham continued in the halfs with Demi Jones returning to the 17 after injury from the bench. Featherstone started the stronger and scored a try in the 1st minute Liv Grace found space on the edge of the Salford defence fed Cloe Billington who supplied the ball for Elle Lamb for the 1st score.  The conversion was missed Rovers lead 0-4. Kate Garry left the field early for Saford but it didn’t stop Salford hitting back, a tough tackle forced a error giving Salford field position on 10 minutes. Devil In The Detail SRD · Reaction to Wakefield defeat, Abi Collins looks forward to Fev and Whitesides world of Rugby If ever a team was dining out at the Last Chance Saloon it was Wakefield Trinity. Marooned at the bottom of the table and cut adrift from a Castleford team that had shown signs of improvement. Trinity were desperately seeking a victory going into this match but like their opponents Salford both teams were missing key players.  The weather in West Yorkshire was much cooler than of recent weeks but perfect for playing rugby league with a gentle breeze. Salford coach Paul Rowley was forced into making changes with last weeks injury to Ryan Brierley. Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers were still missing, Andrew Dixon replaced the injured Sam Stone in the second row. Ellis Longstaff and Alex Gerrard both returned to the bench.
