Catalan 42 Salford 0 Match Report

Devil In The Detail SRD · Fun and games in France, Where Reds sing and Dance hoping for tide to turn on our season The trip to the South of France is probably the most demanding in Super League. Salford were low on numbers taking just a nineteen man squad. Tim Lafai and Marc Sneyd were notable absentees and King Vuniyayawa wasn’t available after issues at the Airport. The weather in Perpignan had been fairly cloudy on Saturday morning but the temperatures were warm around thirty degrees. The sun slowly crept through the clouds in the afternoon for this tea time kick off. The Dragons home form had been fairly consistent in 2023 with just three defeats. Beaten in the cup and League at home to Warrington and a surprise home reverse to Huddersfield a few weeks ago were the only discrepancies for the Dragons.  For some supporters it had been quite a journey of planes, trains and automobiles for one of the most enjoyable away trips in Rugby League. Two points from this fixture would be cru

Devil In The Detail SRD · Fun and games in France, Where Reds sing and Dance hoping for tide to turn on our season   After a thrilling weekend of Challenge Cup action its back to League games this weekend and Salford face a tough trip to the South of France. That part of Europe has seen sweltering temperatures of recent weeks and while this Saturday it’s not forecast to be quite as high but still around the thirty degree mark which is warm enough. Playing Rugby League in that kind of heat is a real mission of its own. Add to that a match against Catalans who are top of the table. Salford were in terrific form going in to last months Cup quarter final at Hull Kingston Rovers. Defeat that day though has seen four more losses on the spin in the league leaving the Red Devils outside the playoffs and the mood around the club has changed. Victory in France could be the catalyst to really kick start the season. With some tricky matches in the run in it looks like a difficult task to make th

Devil In The Detail SRD · Twice the passion Salford RL 150th Anniversary film preview with Director Michael Burke  Salford Red Devils ladies returned to winning ways with a impressive home win against Castleford Tigers. Coming of the back of two defeats Chris Bates ladies showed great intensity thoughout the contest to upset the tigers rhythm and secure the points. It started well for Salford as Castlefords kickoff failed to go 10 metres, this gave Salford opportunity to build pressure. 3 minutes later and Salford scrum half Demi Jones who was busy throughout, found fullback Sage Bannister 40 metres from the Castleford line. She went on a weaving run beating 4 Castleford defenders to open the scoring for the Red Devils. Salford had momentum and the opportunities to extended their lead, a strong Salford defence caused a error by Castleford Tigers Scrum half Jones kicked for the corner unfortunately Salford winger Hollie Jones was unable to gather under pressure from the Castleford de

Devil In The Detail SRD · Reaction To Leigh Pop Up podcast   The current form of Leigh Leopards is one of the real good news stories of Rugby League. The cartel of the sport may disagree with me but it’s refreshing to see a team having there best season for over forty years. Leigh were Champions back in the 1981/82 season with a remarkable twenty four victories from thirty matches. With players like Des Drummond, John Woods, Steve Donlan and Mick Hogan they played a cracking brand of rugby.  This Leigh team of 2023 has lost just once since Salford beat them at Easter. Since that match they’ve put a remarkable run together playing some exceptional Rugby League.  The two sides had met twice already this season and this match was expected to be another cracker between two teams who like to play expansive and free flowing rugby. Salford were perhaps a little low on confidence after four straight defeats and Leigh had a Challenge cup semi final to look forward to next weekend.  The weathe

Devil In The Detail SRD · Reaction To Leeds pop up podcast  Salford Red Devils and Barrow served up a entertaining contest at the Salford City Stadium on Sunday unfortunately Chris Bates ladies ended up on wrong end of the score line. Injuries ment that Chris Bates handed a debut to Fullback Hollie Jones and a forward dominated interchange bench with Yasmin Parton Sotomayor, Casey Naylor and Darcy Price all featuring during the 80 minutes  Salford started the better and opened the scoring as a high kick by Captain Louise Fellingham caused chaos in the Barrow defence, the ball went loose it was picked up by Phoebie Partington who found Winger Lauren Ellison who crossed for the opening score. Demi Jones converted and Salford lead 6-0. Barrow hit back shortly after, a strong run by Hanna Shorlock gave the Raders territory and Kelly Friend went over for the score. It was a exciting encounter with both teams creating opportunities unfortunately for Salford Barrow scored next scrum half Jo

Devil In The Detail SRD · Krisnan Inu Big match chat In modern day sport it always seems like your only ever a few defeats away from a crisis. On the other side of the coin your only a couple of victories away from being the best thing since sliced bread. String a few wins together and everything in garden is rosey, anything is possible and spirits are high. It certainly is a fine line between victory and defeat. A few people said to me after last Sunday’s match against Leeds, why weren’t you more critical of the referee. I was as baffled as anyone in the ground by some of the decisions and I felt Salford were really hard done to. I thought we were the better side on the day. That said though if I moan and complain about the match officials where will that get us? It won’t change anything. If you’ve watched Salford for a good number of years ask yourself a little question.  How many times have you been to a match where Salford have played Wigan, Leeds or St.Helens and come away from

Devil In The Detail SRD · Reaction To Leeds pop up podcast   In the grand scheme of things this match was a playoff four pointer. Prior to kick off Salford sat in the top six with Leeds just outside. The Rhinos were in good form and looking a dangerous side going off recent weeks. Leeds had won three games on the spin after two disappointing loses to Castleford and Wakefield last month. Salford were desperate to get back on track after three poor performances. Once again the weather prior to kick off was warm and sunny but a thunder storm was certainly threatening.  The Rhinos were missing Blake Austin after he picked up a one match suspension. Salford welcomed back Andy Ackers, Brodie Croft and Ryan Brierley from injury. Alex Gerrard started alongside Jack Ormondroyd in the front row with Danny Addy filling in at second row.  Salford looked a lot more settled in the early stages compared to last weeks fiasco at Wakefield. The shape and dimension was back and they looked a threat aga

Salford Red Devils ladies were beaten by Featherstone Rovers on the Community pitch on Sunday 9th July Sage Bannister continued at Fullback, Liana Liota started on the wing replacing the absent Kate Garry with Debutant Aoife McKenna started on the interchange bench Both sides were up for the fight with both showing aggression in attack and defence, Fev opened the scoring after stand-off Price found space and Centre Cloie Billington who strolled over for the 1st score of the afternoon after 9 minutes. Two minutes later Rovers scored again another well worked move down the Fev right tore though the Salford defence again, Billington was in support to record her 2nd try. Featherstone lead 0-10. Salford came back into the contest with a period of pressure, Scrum Half Demi Jones nearly found a way over the line after a sweeping Salford move as did Alex Simpson but both were denied by desperate Featherstone defence Just as Salford were looking dangerous Featherstone delivered a sucker punch a

Devil In The Detail SRD · Record attendance, Lights camera action ready for a Wakefield Stress test I’ve heard a fair bit on social media just recently when a team has been beaten. Supporters crowing on about getting an apology or a refund. I understand defeats can be disappointing and sometimes dismal loses can be pretty soul destroying. I’ve got total respect for anybody who follows a sporting team home and away. It’s definitely not easy and takes a big part of your life up.  In my opinion highs and lows are all part of the journey. It builds your character and moulds you into the person you are. If you’ve watched Salford for a while you’ll be accustomed to the rollercoaster ride. The performance at Wakefield last Friday was dreadful. Yes their was mitigation in the circumstances with injuries and key players missing but that said Salford had enough out there to compete with Trinity. Let’s be honest though the Red Devils were never in the match. So as a supporter stood there on Fri
