Salford City Fc continued their late charge for a playoff place with 2 big victories. The new manager Gary Bowyer will be impressed with his squad who had been written off by many.

With a 2-0 win away at Walsall and a home win against Mansfield on Saturday a late charge towards the playoffs is in their grasp.

This has been helped by the form of Ian Henderson, The veteran striker has found some form and has scored 16 goals so far this season to keep the Ammies in contention.

Bradford City and Colchester United are the next opponents for Salford, both are below Salford in the league so the Ammies go into the contest as favourites. They must continue to keep winning to keep the pressure on teams around them in the playoffs.

Salford Red Devil’s recorded their 1st Super League win of 2021 with a hard fought win against Leigh Centurions at the AJ Bell stadium. The game itself wasn't a free flowing game as both sides were haunted by mistakes and errors which stopped either side building pressure.

A moment of magic from Reds centre Krisnan Inu attempting a interception and patting the loose ball back to winger Ken Sio to run 100m to score the critical try allowed the Salford fans at home to take a deep sign of relief.

Salford Scrum half Kevin Brown was inspirational with 2 tries and Salford 2nd row forward Harvey Livett also impressed and scored at the end of the game.

Richard Marshall will be happy that his team is off the mark and will now hope to build some momentum and confidence ahead of a few tough games to come for the Red Devils.

Swinton Lions suffered defeat against promotion favourites York City Knights, Stuart Littler's men despite conceding 64 points will point to their effort and commitment shown and 3 tries of their own as a positive to come from the result.

Swinton Lions ladies team made their debut this week, The women's game has grown a lot in the last few years and for Swinton to have a team is fantastic and gives opportunities to women and girls in the area to play a high level of rugby league.

They were defeat by Elland 22-24, their try scorers Ruth Boamah, Ellie Thurkwell and Skye Johnson have written themselves into Swinton Rugby history and I look forward to seeing what they can produce in the future.

Manchester Storm are entering the business end of the Elite league, Ryan Finnerty has created a squad good enough to compete with the best and now as they prepare to face Sheffield in a double header to see who gets though to the final this is where their best players will grow into the occation.

Despite defeat against Coventry and Sheffield this week The Storm find themselves in a 2 leg semi final against Sheffield.

Off the ice 4 Storm players have been selected by Team GB to play in the European Championships in Latvia at the end of the month.
Captain and inspirational leader Dallas Ehrhardt makes the trip as well as Ben Lake who has been very good in the Elite league.

Ben Davis who scored GB's overtime winner against France to avoid relegation in 2019 will be available again for more heroics and Storm goal machine Ciaran Long will be hoping to bag big goals in Latvia.
