Hull vs Salford Match Report

Devil In The Detail SRD · Celebrating a win in Cas Vegas and hoping for some ooh la la against the new French fancies After three storms and countless days of rain Salford and their supporters made the journey up the M62 on a crisp but dry day with a glimmer of sunshine. The Red Devils had a sense of optimism after two victories and were confident of getting another good result. Hull were without Luke Gale after the scrum half copped a five match ban for that strange challenge on Johnny Lomax last week.  That said the hosts still had plenty of strike players in their squad with Jake Connor being one that can cause damage.  Salford coach Paul Rowley made a slight change from last weeks team with Dan Sarginson starting at centre with Deon Cross moving to the bench. James Greenwood was named on the team sheet but it was Ryan Lannon who came in as a late change.  Hull started with Ben McNamara at scrum half along side the experienced Josh Reynolds.  Hull came up with a mistake very earl

Devil In The Detail SRD · Celebrating a win in Cas Vegas and hoping for some ooh la la against the new French fancies As a young lad growing up the away trip to Hull always seemed an exciting one. Either Hull or Hull Kingston Rovers both were a fair journey up the M62. I can remember a match at the old Boulevard ground which Salford won 15-20 in January 1996 then after that our next away win came in 2009 at the new KC Stadium in the Challenge cup. Our record in Super League away at Hull is pretty dismal, just three victories from twenty four matches. That said those three wins were very special. The 2017 and 2019 games will be forever remembered by Salford’s travelling supporters as the team completely dismantled their hosts in two tremendous performances.  One of the shock moves in the close season saw Marc Sneyd leave Hull and join Salford. I don’t think many supporters saw that one coming. Luke Gale has replaced Sneyd after moving from Leeds Rhinos to Humberside.  The Airlie

Devil In The Detail SRD · Celebrating a win in Cas Vegas and hoping for some ooh la la against the new French fancies   Summer rugby seemed a long way off as the rain poured down over the AJ Bell Stadium. A swirling wind made the conditions pretty tricky as the match kicked off.  Salford were quick out of the blocks and after some rip roaring defence Toulouse were forced into a mistake deep in their own half. The ball was like a bar of soap in the early stages and a knock on from the visitors provided Salford a perfect attacking opportunity. Marc Sneyd who’s kicking game last week was sensational popped up a lovely weighted kick that seemed to sit in a puddle just inside the in goal area. Ken Sio finished well to give Salford an early lead. Sneyd’s conversion drifted wide but with the windy conditions I think the Salford supporters will let him off that one! A blistering break from stand off Brodie Croft set up the next try. Sio this time used the greasy pitch to his advantage as he

Going to Wheldon Road in front of a sell out crowd was always going to be a tough task. The players seemed to take it all in their stride putting in a thoroughly professional performance and were the better side in every department. Marc Sneyd bossed the game and made the right decisions when called upon. Despite his error from the first kick off Brodie Croft showed some great touches and Castleford couldn’t seem to pin him down. I thought Deon Cross looked exceptional.  Strong in defence and superb with the ball he looked like he’d been playing top flight Rugby League for years. Ryan Brierley seemed at home in the fullback position, every question the Tigers asked him answered. I could go right through the team. Everybody did their job well and as coach Rowley said after the mat

CASTLEFORD V SALFORD MATCH REPORT

Devil In The Detail SRD · Super league preview with Gaz Carter and Castleford Preview A trip to Wheldon Road is a difficult mission at the best of times but to go there on the opening night of the new season in front of a big partisan crowd was the task awaiting a Paul Rowley’s new look Salford side. We’re almost half way through February now and the weather was dry. It was pretty bitter approaching kick off though with the glow from the floodlights beaming across the short pitch. The white iron fence that runs round the side of the pitch is almost timeless at a ground that hasn’t changed much through the decades. It does however ooze history and tradition. As the crowd awaited the two sides entering the tunnel the atmosphere was electric.  Both sides had new players on show with visitors Salford handing debuts to  Ryan Brierley, Tim Lafai, Deon Cross, Brodie Croft, Sitaleki Akauola and Shane Wright. King Vuniyayawa was on the bench and Marc Sneyd made his second debut for the club a

Devil In The Detail SRD · Paul Rowley Castleford pre match interview As the world seems to get more unpredictable it will be nice to have Rugby League back and the day to day challenge of being a supporter. Following your team can be a great comfort even if they aren’t doing so well. As a Salford supporter I must admit I tend to count the days in the off season. As soon as the fixtures are released and then warm up games are announced it’s not to long before it all starts again. A clean slate and a fresh start, teams and supporters alike are filled with optimism. Salford’s loyal band of supporters have plenty to be excited about with some excellent recruitment in the off season and a really strong looking squad. It’s probably not the biggest squad in the Super League but their is definitely plenty of flair in it and with Marc Sneyd joining, he has the ability to win matches. Brodie Croft is another player who arrives from Australia with a good reputation and reports from training sug

Devil In The Detail SRD · Ghana T-shirts, stealth RL tax, Halifax win and Warrington preview It was a night to remember for a rugby legend as Salford and Warrington came together to celebrate the career of Lee Mossop. The ex Salford Captain who lead the club to Super League and Challenge Cup Finals was presented to both teams and the crowd before the game and was given a warm welcome on a cold night at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. Paul Rowley and Darrell Powell opted to field youthful sides with a mix of 1st team sqaud members, Salford fielded new signing Tim Lafai who showed some good touches early on as both teams prepared for the start of Super League next week. Warrington opened the scoring as fullback Josh Thewlis cut through the Salford defence to score. Approaching half time Salford built pressure and we’re rewarded when Ryan Lannon showed great strength to get the ball down under pressure to register Salfords 1st score of the night. As time ticked on towards half time it wa
