Featherstone Lionesses 0 Salford Red Devils Ladies 80
It was another glorious win for Salford Red Devils Ladies in the League Cup as Salford's free scoring winger come Fullback Luci McKeown scored 7( SEVEN) tries against Featherstone Lionesses.
Head Coach Chris Bates decided to keep Luci McKeown at Fullback as Erin Tong remains on the side lines with a knee injury, forward Yasmin Parton-Sotomayor came in for Megan Condliffe.
Early in the contest both sides had chances to test their opponent's defence, Salford's loose forward Vannessa Hadley linked up with the impressive Yasmin Parton-Sotomayor who found centre Oliva Miah but the Lionesses defence stood firm and the chance went away.
Featherstone moved the ball wide moments later space was created and only a try saving tackle by stand in Fullback Luci McKeown prevented the Lionesses opening the scoring. Salford did open the scoring after 22 minutes, a weaving run by McKeown through a broken Lionesses defence was enough get Salford on the board. Demi Jones converted and Salford lead 6-0.
Salford had found their rhythm and pressed for another score, a good run around move by Jones created space for centre Oliva Miah to find a way over for her 1st try of the season. Jones was unable to convert but Salford lead 10-0. From the restart Featherstone tried a short kickoff which was collected by Salford's other centre Steff Gray who raced 60m to score, this put the Red Devils firmly in control and with Jones adding the extras Salford lead 16-0 after 29 minutes.
Salford continued to have good go forward with hooker Tanzin Corcoran busy round the ruck providing quick ball for the devastating running of Dacy Price and Hanna Wicks. Featherstone had no answer to the constant bombardment. Mckeown got her 2nd of the game and her hat trick score just before half time showing devastating pace. Jones kicked both and Salford were 28-0 to the good at the break.
The 2nd half started as the 1st half had ended with Salford pressing the Lionesses line, Demi Jones went from creator of tries to scorer with a tidy finish and with 52 minutes gone Luci McKeown got her 4th and 5th of the game slicing though a overworked Lionnesses defence to score after good work from Louise Fellingham and Vannessa Hadley. 46-0 up and still playing expansive rugby league.
When Featherstone had the ball Salford defence was ferocious with Victoria Kini leading the charge causing a error, defence quickly turned into attack for Salford as Corcoran found Jones for her 2nd try of the game. McKeown was on the score sheet again for her 6th of the game after a rampaging run by Kini, Chris Bates ladies putting in a performance that will make their league rival sit up and take noice.
Two good team tries were next for Salford with 10 minutes to go, Captain Louise Fellingham bagging the 1st one after a fantastic break by Yasmin Patron Sotomayor, supported by Abi Collins who handed on to McKeown who provided the skipper with a easy score to make it 62-0. Winger Lauren Ellison was next on the scoreboard after a Collins and Sotomayor linked up again with a bit of magic from Jones the Winger raced over for her try.
Featherstone pressed for a conciliation try and forced a drop out from Salford unfortunately for them it came to nothing and after a error Louise Fellingham found Gray who raced another 80m to score her 2nd of the match.
The final score of the match came on the final hooter from Luci McKeown who supported a burst by Collins to end the rout,
A hugely impressive away win for the ladies the forward pack dominant though out, Jones in good form and with Luci Mckeown, Stef Gray and a speedy back line try's can come from everywhere.
The next game for Chris Bates Ladies is Swinton Lionesses who they beat at the AJ Bell in their 1st fixure as a team, fans will be excited to see what the ladies can produce after this stunning win.
