Keighley v Swinton Lions Match Report
Swinton Started brightly and after some creative play Dan Abraham found space to go over for the 1st score of the afternoon. The conversion was missed and Swinton lead 0-4.
Swinton had momentum and after some good work by Luke Waterworth the lions hooker linking up with Ben Hayes sending Max Roberts over to score. The travelling lions support were delighted the kick was good and the score was 0-10.
Keighley hit back after 10 minutes as Mo Agoro was on the end of a sweeping move and the Swinton's lead was cut to 6 points.
Four minute later Swinton extended their lead Jack Spencer put Swinton in a dangerous area and from the resulting drop out and they were rewarded when Waterworth crashed over to score. Conversion was good and the score board read 4-16 Swinton.
Keighley needed to find a way into the contest and after a period of pressure James Fletcher scored to reduce Swinton's lead to 6 points again.
Twenty minutes in and Swinton added to the score board, Matty Wilkinson going down the hill got on the end of a creative bit of play from the Lions. Dan Abram added the extras.
It was a real see saw battle at this point with both sides asking questions, just before half time Mike Butt and Rhodri Lloyd combine to send Richard Lepori over in the corner. The touchline conversion fell short but the lions were infront 10-26 which would have delighted coach Alan Coleman.
On the hooter Lewis Hatton showed great strength to barge his way over. The conversion was good by Abram and at half time Swinton lead 10-32.
The 2nd half was a tougher affair for Swinton on 50 minutes Keighley Nathan Roebuck scored and the game look like a contest again until the 65th Minute when Jack Hanson made the most of a Keighley error to put Swinton back in control.
Keighley's Mathew Bailey scored from close range with 7 minutes on the clock and the game finished 22-42 to Swinton.
Alan Coleman’s men will take confidence from this result as they start their league campaign against West Wales at Heywood Road on the 27th March 3pm kickoff.
