Doncaster 22 Swinton Lions 64 Match report
Early pressure from Swinton had Doncaster on the back foot and the Lions opened the scoring. A creative team move sent Jayden Hatten over for the opening score of the day. Dan Abriham kicked the conversion and Swinton lead 6-0 after 3 minutes.
Doncaster were unable to control the ball and Swinton took full advantage when Max Roberts found space to score Abriham made it 2 conversions for them and the lions were up by 12 points.
10 minutes into the game Doncaster came back into the contest, the ball was moved wide to Tom Halliday who showed good pace and know how cross. The deficit was 8 points.
Both teams were in the arm wrestle but Swinton were next to add for rhe scoreboard, Luke Waterworth who impressed throughout sent Louis Brogain over for a score
Things went from bad to worse when Ben Johnson was sent off for dissent for Doncaster and with the extra man Swinton took control.
Another error by Doncaster gave field position for the lions who built pressure Max Roberts showed a great centre play to score.
Doncaster refused to throw in the towel and pegged back Swinton again after 27 minutes, Tom Halliday made the initial break and after some good work Jason Tali scored, Doncaster 10 Swinton 24 and the game was still in the mix
5 minutes before half time Swinton came up with a critical score, Jack Hanson showing creativity to gather his own kick and send Matty Wilkinson over for a try by Doncaster’s posts.
With confidence oozing Swinton went for the kill right on half time Jayden Hatton with his 2nd try of the game sent Swinton into half time leading 10-30.
The 2nd half started well for Swinton, the all action fullback Dan Abram broke through the Doncaster defence sending Jack Hansen to score. Allan Coleman’s men were in control in South Yorkshire.
Doncaster despite being down to 12 men continued to ask questions of the Swinton defence Jason Tali finding room to ground the ball after 52 minutes for Doncaster.
The next Swinton try was outstanding Nick Gregson with a special solo effort from close range put Swinton 30 points infront.
Rhodri Lloyd was the next Swinton player on 65 minutes to cross the line after some good attacking play. Abram converted and Swinton were over the half century.
Swintons Richard Lepori, Jack Hanson and Doncasters Rob Storey traided try’s in the dying stages.
Alan Coleman’s men will be happy with the last few weeks scoring lots of points.
Swinton return to Heywood Road on Easter Sunday after two weeks away and face Crusaiders.
