Swinton Lions v Cornwall Match Report
Swinton Lions made it three wins in a row with a home win against Cornwall.
Cornwall stared brightly putting the lions under pressure with a dropout forced and Alan Colemans defence tested, After 8 minutes and the early storm weathered Swinton scored the 1st try , the ball was moved though multiple hands to allow Richard Lepori to go over in the corner, Dan Abram added the extra two points and Swinton lead 6-0.
The Pirates were still showing plenty of spirit and tested the Swinton line again after 11 minutes but some solid defence from the lions created confidence which they showed in the next attack, Lepori going over again in the corner for his 2nd of the game.
After 20 minutes Swinton scored again, ill discipline by Cornwall allowed Swinton to build pressure which allowed Lewis Halton the chance to score, Abram converted and Swinton lead 16-0.
Swinton sensed that Cornwall were there for the taking, unfortunately for the Lions some over eager attack resulted in a interception by Adam Rusling and the Cornwall scrumhalf raced 70m to cut Swinton Lion to 12 points after 22 minutes.
With 12 minutes to go before half time Swinton scored again, Billy Bricknall showing all the skills to go over for the lions to extend their lead further, the conversion was missed but Swinton had a health lead 20-4.
Jaden Haydon was next on the score sheet for Swinton on 33 minutes, finding space on the left hand side of the field the 2nd row forward had the pace to get over the line for the score, conversion was missed again but Swinton lead by 20.
Just on half time Cornwall hit back a try from Joe Purcell focusing minds as the hooter went with the score 24-10 Swinton.
The score on half time seemed to wake up the lions as good work from Mike Butt and George Roby sent Roby under the post for Swinton.
After 56 minutes Cornwall were punished for not finding the side line with a penalty, Max Roberts finding his way to the line. Abram converted and the numbers on Swinton's scoreboard kept moving up 36-10.
Swinton's Mich Cox was next on the score sheet, a powerful run ended with the Swinton player placing the ball down behind the line and with the conversion good by Abram it was 42-10 Lions.
Mike Butt and Jack Hanson completed the scoring for Swinton Lions who will be happy with the win and the performance against Cornwall as ambitions for promotion back to the Championship grows.
