Swinton Lions v London Skolars Match report

 Swinton Lions got back to winning ways at home as they beat London Skolars at Heywood Road.


After some good early pressure  a run from Mike Butt put Swinton in good field position from which they took advantage, Lewis Charnock with the finish after a sweeping move by the lions.

Dan Abham kicked the conversion to give Swinton a 6-0 lead after 6 minutes.


Swinton doubled their lead on 8 minutes Max Roberts on the end of a planned move got the Heywood Road faithful on their feet, Abhams conversion made it 12-0  to the Lions of Swinton.

11 minutes into the game Abham became provider of Swintons next try, he found Ben Heyes in space and the centre had the pace to get over the line, the conversion was good again and Alan Coleman’s men were 18 points up.


London Skolas were shell shocked with how well Swinton had started  but recovered to post points of their own as Jerome Yates dived over in the corner to cut the deficit to 12 points.


With 10 minutes to go to half time the lions roared over the line for their next try, good work by Lewis Charnock provided space for Jack Hanson to keep the scoreboard ticking over, he converted his own try and Swinton lead 24-6.

Lewis Charnock who was a force all afternoon registered his own score minutes later to send Swinton into half time with a 30-6 lead.

Charnock started the 2nd half in the same form he finished in the 1st half,  his grubber kick caused chaos in the London defence resulted in a long pass to Max Roberts to score in the corner.


Ben Hayes who was impressive thoughtout scored his 2nd of the game after 52 minutes and the lions were in charge with the score 42-6 to Swinton.


15 minutes to go the Skolars scored a try to restore some pride through Aaron Small but Swinton hit back  with a try from Billy Bricknall.

Swinton who started to play expansive rugby with a clinical feel brought up the half century as Max Roberts crossed. It backfired on Swinton in the 73rd minute as The Skolars took advantage of a loose ball and Leighton Ball scrambled over for a score.


The final score of the afternoon came from captain Rhodry Lloyd who danced over as the Heywood Road Faithful whooped with delight.


Swinton Lions back to winning ways will impress coach Allan Coleman as they prepare to travel to Hunslet on Sunday
