Great Britain Teachers International Alex Simpson moved into fullback, vice captain Vannessa Hadley operated in the centre and Kate Garry Started on the wing in place of Epi Fletcher. YPS, Hanna Wicks and Casey Naylor started on the bench. It was a tough encounter early in the contest with both sets of forwards looking to gain a foot hold in the game.  Salford thought they had opened the scoring early in the game but Hooker Taz Corcoran who was outstanding all afternoon had her effort ruled out for obstruction in the build up. Devil In The Detail SRD · Quiz pod with Matt Drinkwater, Ladies have answers in Hull as Rowley's boys look again v Wakefield   After a break for international Rugby League Salford returned home to face Wakefield Trinity. Both sides were at crossroads in their respective seasons. Victory would keep them in touch with the playoffs and defeat would leave them in the doldrums with Toulouse. Bottom side Toulouse are cut adrift at present with just four league points but with a run of home fixtures coming up next month in the extremely hot French sunshine they could mount a survival bid and put plenty of pressure on teams above them.  Salford are currently struggling with injuries to what is already a fairly small squad. Coach Paul Rowley has now lost Morgan Escare to injury and made a few changes to his side from the last match against Wigan. Chris Atkin made the bench with Amir Bourouh missing out. Sitaleki Akauola started at loose forward with Elijah Taylor on the bench. Alex Gerrard

Devil In The Detail SRD · Quiz pod with Matt Drinkwater, Ladies have answers in Hull as Rowley's boys look again v Wakefield As far as the 2022 season goes this match could prove a real turning point. Both sides are level with ten points, five victories each from their fifteen games so far. Salford stay above Wakefield currently in the table due to a slightly better points difference.  Warrington also have ten points with Leeds on eleven. At the moment Toulouse are the fall guys and favourites for relegation to the Championship. The French side have four points but do have a run of home matches coming up over the next month or so. If they were to pick a few wins up it will make the back end of the season very interesting and exciting.  Wakefield were the much better side when they played Salford at Belle Vue back in April and they took the victory. Trinity have won two matches on the spin, a golden point extra time win over Hull was backed up by another comeback victory over Warri

Hull FC who came into the game on the back of a 5 game winless run and with confidence low Chris Bates ladies knew the 1st score in the game would be crucial.  After a cagey 1st 10 minutes in which Salford Fullback Luci Mckeown limped off not to return which created a headache for Salford, Alex Simpson moved to fullback and Vannessa Hadley into the centre, Taz Corcoran moved to Loose forward and Brogan Evan dropped into the hooking role. Salfords spine was being stress tested.  With the big league cup semi final game against Dewsbury Moor to come in two weeks, its crucial all of Salford's strike players are fit and available if they

Devil In The Detail SRD · Roughed up by the Robins - Staying switched on against Wigan   Salford Red Devils Reserve Team recorded their 1st league success of the season after a fantastic comeback win away at Leeds Rhinos. Leeds started well and Salford were immediately under pressure, Salford winger Joe Brady kicked the ball dead after 2 minutes as the Rhinos went though their attacking moves. Leeds took the lead after 5 minutes a interception by winger Makenzie Turner turned defence into attack for the Rhinos and winger Kiden Hartley found his way over the line for a early score. The Rhino extended their lead after 11 minutes, Salford's defence was burst wide open down the middle of the field and stand off David Gibbons had the pace to go over, Gibbons converted his own try and the Rhinos lead by 10 points. Salford's forwards found a foothold in the game and after 20 minutes started asking questions of the Leeds defence, hooker Jonny Openshaw who was Salford's man of the

Salford v Wigan Match Report

Devil In The Detail SRD · Roughed up by the Robins - Staying switched on against Wigan   A pleasant sunny evening with a pitch in tip top condition awaited the two sides who were meeting for the third time this season. Wigan won the Challenge Cup tie at a canter 20-0 but when the two sides met in the league at the back end of April Salford were pretty unfortunate not to get something out of the match after a terrific comeback.  It was Jai Field’s last gasp try that saved the day for the Warriors in dramatic fashion. Since then Wigan have won the Challenge Cup and backed up last Saturday with a very good victory away at Castleford. Salford have won two home game on the trot but were second best last Sunday at Hull Kingston Rovers. The Robins ran out comfortable winners 43-16. Wigan were without centre Iain Thornley who has picked up a MCL injury. The experienced Thomas Leuluai returned in his place.  Liam Farrell started in the second row, for me one of the best forwards in the countr

Devil In The Detail SRD · Roughed up by the Robins - Staying switched on against Wigan After lifting the Challenge Cup a few weeks ago Wigan seem more determined than ever to add the League Championship (Grand Final win) to make it a famous double. Under coach Matty Peet the Warriors seem more resilient and tough to break down. Add to that their ability to score plenty of tries and some world class ones at that it makes them a dangerous prospect.  I think Peet has been a real breath of fresh air. Listening to his interviews and press conferences he always comes across as level headed and fair. He’s a humble man who has a terrific future ahead of him in the coaching circles of a Rugby League. After a good run of performances last month Salford travelled to East Hull last Sunday and were well beaten by Hull Kingston Rovers. It was a disappointing display from the Red Devils who were never in the contest once the Robins opened a two score lead. It’s hard to put a finger on what went wro

Devil In The Detail SRD · Takeover talk as Salford try to stop the Red Robins bobbing   It certainly didn’t feel like June as the two sides warmed up on the pitch prior to kick off. A grey gloomy day on Humberside where a decent coat was the order of the day.  Salford coach Paul Rowley brought Ryan Brierley back in to the team at full back and Amir Bourouh started at hooker in place of Andy Ackers who has picked a knock up. Alex Gerrard returned to start at prop with Tyler Dupree on the bench alongside Danny Addy, Morgan Escare and Ryan Lannon. Salford should have opened the scoring when Ken Sio and Deon Cross broke away down the right edge. The duo somehow seemed to overplay the situation and the chance was gone. The Robins came into this match on a poor run of form but with some experienced players returning to the side they got on the front foot with back to back tries. Lachlan Coote out jumped the Salford defence to score the first one then Coote backed up superbly to take Matt P

Devil In The Detail SRD · Takeover talk as Salford try to stop the Red Robins bobbing After a great day of Rugby League in the capital last weekend it’s back to the weekly cut and thrust of League action. Two Northwest sides were victorious at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Saturday. Just five miles separate the two Rugby League towns of Leigh and Wigan. The Centurions came up with a fantastic display to beat Featherstone Rovers and in the Challenge Cup final Wigan came back to beat Huddersfield late on with a super try from Liam Marshall. Across both games their was a good sprinkling of former Salford players. Salford have won two matches on the trot and will feel confident of extending that run. Hull Kingston Rovers have hit some choppy waters in recent weeks. Coach Tony Smith announced he will be leaving the club at the end of the season and they were comfortably beaten in the Challenge Cup Semi final by Huddersfield. Add to that a miserable run of defeats in the Super League
