HULL FC 6 SALFORD RED DEVIL LADIES 36 FULL TIME REPORT

 

Salford Red Devils Ladies continued with their winning habit beating Hull FC on Sunday at the University of Hull.

Kayleigh Bradshaw and Megan Condliffe returned to the Salford starting 13, Brogan Evans  took her place on the interchange bench.

Hull FC who came into the game on the back of a 5 game winless run and with confidence low Chris Bates ladies knew the 1st score in the game would be crucial.

After a cagey 1st 10 minutes in which Salford Fullback Luci Mckeown limped off not to return which created a headache for Salford, Alex Simpson moved to fullback and Vannessa Hadley into the centre, Taz Corcoran moved to Loose forward and Brogan Evan dropped into the hooking role.

Salfords spine was being stress tested. 

With the big league cup semi final game against Dewsbury Moor to come in two weeks, its crucial all of Salford's strike players are fit and available if they are to reach the final.


The deadlock was broken after 10 minutes, Salford captain Fellingham scored after good run by Sarina Tamou who was immense all afternoon, allowed interchange Hooker Brogan Evans to send the captain over for the opening score .

Salford doubled their lead 2 minutes later, good work from Tanzin Corcoran allowed forward Megan Condliffe to attack the Hull defence, she sent Fellingham into the space created. Louise weighed up her options and a simple pass sent pacey winger Lauren Ellison over in the corner for Salford's 2nd score, Hull 0 Salford 8.

Hull battled hard and for the next 10 minutes both sides had chances to score, it took a fine individual effort from Salford's England international Forward Sarina Tamou to keep the Salford scoreboard ticking over.

It was a trademark bulldozing run taking 4 Hull defenders over the line with her, much to the delight of her team mates and traveling support.

Salford's forwards were dominant thoughout, Abi Collins, Megan Condliffe and Darcey Price lead from the front causing chaos in the Hull defence with strong direct running, after 30 minutes Salford Centre Steph Gray's quick play of the ball sent Hulls defence into panic mode and after good work by Evans and Ellison it resulted in Louise Fellingham forcing her way over the line for her 2nd try of the afternoon.


Brogan Evans was one of the standout players in this match, her combinations with Corcoran gave Hull headaches all afternoon, the conversion by Kayleigh Bradshaw was good and with the whistle sounding for half time Chris Bates ladies were in control at 0-20.

The 2nd half was barley 10 minutes old when  Alex Simpson  went on a weaving run from Fullback, she found space on the edge of the Hull defence to power over the line from 30 metres, with 20 minutes to go Salford secured the points when good hands by Fellingham sent Demi Jones through a gap in the Hull defence for a four pointer.


Kayleigh Bradshaw celebrated her return to the team with a try with 10 minutes to go,  good work by Condliffe and Corcoran gave Demi Jones space to tease a opening in the Hull defence for the hardworking 2nd row to take advantage of.


The final score for Salford was by Steph Gray 5 minutes later, after another Evans run sucked in the Hull defence, space was created out wide, good hands by Salford's attacking line send Gray over in the corner.

The last 5 minutes of the game Hull scored a consolation try but it did not dampen the spirits, with Widnes at home next for Salford and a semi final against Dewsbury Moor on the horizon its going to be a exciting part of the season to enjoy.
