Salford Red Devils ladies warmed up for their League Cup Final against Orrell St James with a tremendous win away at Dewsbury Moor.

The weather conditions in Yorkshire was wet and windy and Salford's fast flowing style of play would have have been tested by opponents they beat in the League Cup semi final a couple of weeks ago.

New Signing Sade Rihari came in to centre replacing the injured Steph Gray, Jena Monks and Brogan Evans started on the wings in place of Kate Garry and Lauren Ellison.

Salford opened the scoring after 3 minutes GB Teachers international Alex Simpson found space on the outside after a Dewsbury Moor error from a Demi Jones kick and crossed for the Red Devils, Demi Jones converted and Salford lead.

Salford senced they had momentum and after 5 minutes of Salford pressure all the hard work  paid off as good play from Captain Louise Fellingham caused the Moor defence to creek and new signing Sade Rihari found Full back Luci Mckeown who crossed for Salford, Demi Jones converted and Salford lead 0-12.

It was roles  reversed on 15 minutes Fullback Mckeown caused the Dewsbury Moor defence to back peddle and Centre Rihari sliced though to score her 1st try for Salford Red Devils, Demi Jones missed with her conversion attempt and Salford lead 0-16 as the heavens opened up and rain hammered the ladies on the field once again.

With Taz Corcoran, Demi Jones and Louise Fellingham dictating operations and a  strong pack making inroads into the  Dewsbury Moor defence it was only a matter of time till it was breached again, Fullback Luci Mckeown, showed great pace raced round the Moor defence to extend Salford's lead. Demi Jones goaled and the scoreboard ticked over. It was 22 points to Nil for Salford Red Devils.

Straight from Kickoff Salfords expansive play in the rain paid off, Centre Rihari scored her 2nd of the game racing over from 40 yards beating the cover and announcing herself to the traveling Salford faithful. Demi Jones convered and Salford had a 28 point lead.

As the rain continued to fall Salford's forwards went up a gear, Kayleigh Bradshaw and Dacey Price put Salford into range with some destructive running this allowed Casey Naylor to carried 4 Dewsbury Moor players over the line on her back to place the ball down under the posts for the score. Demi added the two points

Rihari completed her hatrick 10 minutes before half time Captain Louise Fellingham fed the Salford centre and she raced over much to the delight of her team mates.

The 2nd half started much as the 1st half ended Kayleigh Bradshaw went close but a desperate Dewsbury defence prevented the score, the pressure told on Dewsbury shortly after as Salford did register 6 more points,   Demi Jones and Alex Simpson linked up to send Brogan Evans over. Demi Jones’s  conversion moved Salford's score to 42 points and it was only a matter of time till the half centenary was reached.

Demi Jones  was next on the score sheet, as Luci Mckeown and Brogan Evans ran into space creating field position for Jones to scamper over the line, the Salford scrum half converted her own try and Chris Bates ladies were in good form ready for the league cup Final next week.

The final try of the game which took Salford's score over the half century mark Brogan Evans ran at a tiring Moor defence, Megan Condiliffe created momentum and this allowed Captain Louise Fellingham to get her try. Demi Jones converted the  final goal kick attempt of the afternoon and Salford took the points back down the M62.

Salford are in League cup final action on Sunday against Orrell St James and in this form you wouldn't bet against them winning their 1st trophy as a team.

Chris Bates said

“It was a really complete performance, defensively we were excellent and that bore good field position that we dropped straight into our process. We completed sets and we hit Dewsbury on the edges when the chance arose.

They’re a good side Dewsbury, who showed that by coming back into the game and limiting our ability to score in the second half, so a result like that didn’t come easy, and shouldn’t be underestimated as to how well the girls played. The challenge is now to reset, refocus on the final and block out all the distractions that come with that so that we better that performance next week”
