Leeds 34 Salford 14 Match report
Salford Red Devils unbeaten run came to an end at Leeds Rhinos on Sunday.
Dan Sarginson continued at Fullback but was replaced by Ryan Brierley at half time as a hamstring injury forced him off the field
Leeds started the better team testing the Salford defence and raced into a 18-0 lead inside 15 minutes to put them firmly in the driving seat
The 1st try Leeds showed by the Rhinos are dangerous moved the ball wide, Salford's defence was unable to deal with the early pressure and Harry Newman after a suspisiously looking forward pass from winger David Fusitua got on the end of a flowing move to open the scoring for Leeds. The 2nd try came from ex Salford scrum half Richie Myler. A high kick which Myler contested with Dan Sarginson. Unfortunatly for Salford the Leeds Scrum half beat the Salford full back to the ball and scrambled over the line from 10 metres.
Leeds 3rd try in this period was scored by Rhys Martins who carried 3 salford defenders over the line with him to give Leeds a 18 point lead after 15 minutes.
Salford hit back 5 minutes later, following a drop out good work by Marc Sneyd and great hands by Tim Lafai and Elijah Taylor sent winger Joe Burgess over the line to give Paul Rowley hope.
10 minutes later Salford's belief grew as Ken Sio got on a free flowing Salford move which went though multiple pairs of hands and with 8 points scored in 8 minutes Paul Rowley's men went into half time in the ascendency.
Salford started the 2nd half just like the 1st with Salford testing the leeds defence, after a drop out Standoff Brodie Croft dummied over the line and with the score 18-14 after a Marc Sneyd kick the 3 coaches of Salford fans hoped for a stunning comeback.
Salford continue to push in the 2nd half for a equalising score but unfortunately Leeds Rhys Martin kicked a penalty to increase their lead and after a attack which Salford looked certain to score Leeds winger Ash Handley intercepted a Ryan Brierley pass and ran 90 metres to secure the win for the Rhinos.
Sitaleki Akauola was put int the sin bin for persistant fouling by the Salford team over a period of 5 minutes and Leeds Rhinos finished the day with another score for Rhys Martin.
The match finished 34-14 for Leeds, Paul Rowley was unhappy that referee Ben Thaler had not sent off Leeds Stand off Aidan Seazer after a trip on Deon Cross in the 2nd half but admitted the better team had won on the day.
The next Salford game is at home to Huddersfield Giants at the AJ Bell on Saturday on channel 4, Paul Rowley men will be looking to bounce back after this defeat to keep their playoff dreams alive
