Salford Red Devils ladies picked up their 2nd home win of the week and broke a try scoring record against Widnes Vikings.

Widnes has suffered a number of withdrawals before kickoff due to holidays and injuries and fielded a youthful team but Salford didn’t let this effect their performance with a clinical display.

Salford started well and from a Demi Jones kick chaos ensued in the Widnes defence allowing captain Louise Fellingham to catch the ball and score Salfords 1st try.

Salford showed that they can score from all areas of the field, GB Teachers international Alex Simpson was next on the score sheet racing  through the overworked Widnes defence from long range.

Taz Cocoran showed her quality with Salfords next try , attacking the Widnes defence on the half way line she found a gap and raced under the posts  much to the delight of the Salford faithful watching at the AJ Bell.

The final score of the afternoon came from Winger Lauren Ellison who from kickoff sliced though the Widnes defence and ran 60 metres to score under the posts to complete the route. With 7 tries in the last 3 games coming to the business end of the season she is doing the business for Salford Red Devils.

Head Coach Chris Bates Said

“First of all, credit to Widnes. They had a number of first team players unavailable and handed debuts to a number of young players. I hope that Sundays experience will stand them in good stead in their future careers.

We weren’t sure what we were up against but we talked about preparing properly after a tough game Wednesday and showing our professionalism. The score line tells you that we did exactly that and I’m pleased”

We recover now, I expect us to work hard through the break after that and prepare well for Hull FC, who are coming to us on the back of two good results. Our work now turns to being ready for that”
