Salford Red Devils Reserves 30 Warrington 24 Match report

 It was a super Saturday for Salford Red Devils reserves as they beat Warrington Wolves in a pulsating encounter at the  AJ Bell.

Head Coach Stuart Wilkinson started with Jacob Lee in the 2nd row and Matty Unsworth at Loose forward, Jack Stevens, Finn Yates and Chris Worrell started on the bench.


Warrington opened the scoring after 3 minutes when Winger Oliver Brooks  squeezed over in the corner. Standoff Ben Tyrer converted and the Wolves lead 6-0, Salford hit back 7 minutes later good work by scrum half Mathew Rudd sent forward Mathew Unsworth over the line for Salford's 1st score of the afternoon. Fullback Josh Rourke converted to tie the scores at 6-6.

Salford took the lead on 15 minutes when Toby Hughes found space in the Warrington defence and fed 2nd row forward Henry Davis who crashed over from 20m. with another conversion by Rourke Salford lead 12-6.

It was a see saw contest as Warrington hit back with a try from Steve Antrobus, Wire moved the ball from left to right and Antrobus found the gap in the Salford defence to score. The conversion was missed so Salford still lead 12-10.

10 minutes before half time after pressure on the Warrington line prop forward Daniel Spencer Tonks barged his way over the line. It was double delight for Salford fullback Rourke just before the half time hooter Rourke stepped his way though the Warrington line to score his 1st try and from the resulting restart a minute later he was in the right place at the right time supporting a 40m break by Henry Davis to push Salford further in front.


As the whistle sounded Stuart Wilkinson's men deservedly lead 24-12.

The 2nd half was more of a tense affair with Warrington scoring Fullback Noah Booth registering the 1st points of the 2nd half, Salford retaliated with a score of their own  Miles Dalton Harrop getting over the line after good work by Rourke.

Warrington rallied late with two tries but Stuart Wilkinson's men found their way to the finish line to register a well earned victory.
