Bradford 28 Salford 34 Match report
Salford Red Devils ladies recorded their 2nd win in Super League two with a dramatic late try away at Bradford Bulls.
Coach Dawn Schofield stepped in as acting head coach in place of Chris Bates and her team started brightly putting pressure on the Bradford defence. It took four minutes for Salford to strike first, a try from Captain Louise Fellingham who got on the end of a Demi Jones kick to open the scoring. Demi Jones converted.
Salford gained confidence after the good start and more was to come as good work by Jones and Fellingham sent Centre Steph Gray over for Salfords 2nd score, Demi Jones converted again and Salford lead by 12 points.
Bradford realised they were in a battle and hit back soon after a powerful run by Jess Harrap reduced Salfords lead to 6 after 15 minutes.
Salfords defence was tested as another wave of attacks from Bradford had hearts in mouths and despite heroics in the defensive line to try and keep the lead Bradford found a way over again, after a high kick caused chaos Ellena Powell pounced to tie the scores at 12-12.
Just before half time as both sides had half chances Bradford hit the front, a strong run by Claire Collins skittled the Salford defence to crash over and take the Bulls into half time infront 18-12.
Five minutes into the 2nd half Salford hit back with a opportunist try, Bradford looked to move the ball wide Salford electric winger Lauren Ellison read the play, intercepted the attempted pass and raced clear from 40 metres. Demi Jones converted and the game was all tied up at 18 all.
Salford had momentum and tested the Bradford defence a number of times, Brogan Evans with a trademark scoot from dummy half left Bradford defenders flat footed as she dived over for the score which put Salford infront for the 2nd time.
Minutes later Salford scored again, more pressure close to the Bradford line Jones found Sam Evans with a kick who popped the ball back inside to centre Alex Simpson who strolled over for the score
Jones kicked one conversion and missed one Salford lead by 10 with 25 minutes to go.
The game was nearly made safe minutes later as more good work by Jones created another opportunity for Simpson but the ball bounced over the side line and the danger went away.
Bradford refused to give in and scored a try with 10 minutes to go winger Lilly Williams going over in the corner and tied the scores with 5 minutes to go when Mullen Downs who scored the critical try which made the score 28-28.
Big pressure moments means big players come to the fore, a break from Bradford from kickoff looked dangerous until crucial defensive effort by Brogan Evans forced a error, Salford built pressure close to the Bulls line Captain Fellingham found Forward Yasmin Parton Sotomayor who crashed over under the posts to record the match winning score.
Demi Jones converted and Salford saw the game out to record a famous win at Odsal.
