Salford ladies 30 Bradford Bulls 4 Match report

Salford Red Devils ladies made it two wins on the bounce with a strong performance against Bradford Bulls.

The game started at a frantic pace with both sides creating half chances Salford loose forward Brogan Evans who was superb all afternoon made a trademark run though the Bradford defence, unfortunately for Salford the Bulls stopped that Salford attack as it started to look dangerous.

The Bulls right Winger Williams had Salford's defence in scramble mode early on with a strong run but the Red Devils had enough bodies in the tackle to prevent a early score.

Salford scored the opening try of the game shortly after. A towering bomb was spilt by Bradford fullback MacMillan and from the resulting scrum 20 metres from the Bulls line a strong run by Salford forward Emerald Hickey and good work by Hooker Taz Cocoran created space for Scrum half Demi Jones to angle a kick to winger Hollie Jones to gather and score Salford's 1st points of the game.

Demi Jones missed the conversion but Salford lead 4-0.

Salford had confidence flowing through their veins and continued to test the Bulls defence, Captain Louise Fellingham created space and delivered a pin point kick towards centre Steph Gray. Unfortunately for Salford the ball didn’t land in the centres hands and the chance went away.

Salford aggressive defensive attitude in their forward pack rattled the Bulls who struggled to clear their lines and gain territory early in the 1st half. A bone crunching tackle by Salford forward Megan Condiliffe resulted in a knock on by Bradford. This created a opportunity for Salford to crank up the pressure on the Bulls again with Cocoran and both Salford Jones’s going close. Fellingham's 5th tackle kick caused chaos in the Bulls defensive line 5 metres out and a drop out was conceded.

From the resulting drop out a sweeping move across the field by Salford resulted in their 2nd try of the afternoon. Lauren Ellison showing fleet of foot and good hands to send centre partner Steph Gray over for her 1st try of the afternoon.

Demi Jones Converted and Salford lead 10-0.

Bradford looked to get a foothold back in the contest but more aggressive defence had them on the back foot again with errors from the Bulls  Salford took advantage. A weaving run by Centre Alex Simpson gave Salford territory to attack from. Fellingham and fullback Sage Bannister combined to send Gray over for her 2nd try of the game.

Salford's forwards continued to make inroads into the Bradford half with Viki Kini and Jessica Panayiotou impressing. Bradford built pressure on the Salford line towards the back end of the 1st half with strong runs from forwards Alexander and Fisher but solid defence limited the Bulls to only half chances as Salford went into half time leading 14-0.

The 2nd half turned into a arm wrestle with both teams mixing it upfront with strong runs, Salford's early opportunity came from another Demi Jones kick which was not dealt with by winger Butterfield and from the resulting attack a rampaging run by Helena Walker as brought to a end by a forward pass.

Salford registered the 1st points of the 2nd half when Winger Lauren Ellison intercepted a pass in a promising Bradford attack to score from 30 metres, this took Salford into a 20 point lead with the conversion by Demi Jones.

A strong run by forward Summer Harris had the Bradford defensive line scrambling to prevent a score unfortunately Salford were unable to capitalise  on that occasion and the Bulls survived.

Bradford gained territory by Salford giving away a penalty, the Bulls 2nd row forward Kaney gave the Red Devils something to think about with strong runs, pressure resulted in a drop out which Bradford forced on the next set of 6 Winger Williams running blind side of the Salford defence to register their only score of the afternoon.

Salford finished the stronger scoring the next try,  another Jones kick forced a error , Salford Centre Alex Simpson swooped on the loose ball to score.

The final try of the afternoon for Salford came from  Alex Simpsons, her 2nd try of the game, another strong run by Emerald Hickey, created space for Hooker Cocoran to send the Salford Centre over for the try.
