Devil In The Detail SRD · Our big podcast news announced and Can Salford slay a Dragon and a Leopard to reach the playoffs?   After brutal, bruising, up and down season Salford returned to play their final regular season match at home to high flying Catalans Dragons. Red Devils coach Paul Rowley made changes with Amir Bourouh coming in at hooker to replace Andy Ackers. Brad Singleton was back in the starting line up after suspension. Adam Sidlow made the bench in place of King Vuniyayawa who was serving the first match of his two game suspension.  After last weeks dismantling of Leeds the Dragons arrived full of confidence and were still in with a chance of finishing top of the table and claiming the League Leaders shield. Veteran Sam Tomkins started at fullback with Mitchell Pearce and Tyrone May in the halves. English duo Mike McMeeken and Matt Whitley were in the back row and the ever reliable Ben Garcia was at loose forward. The weather was much cooler than earlier in the month a

Devil In The Detail SRD · Golden point drama, Player of the year nominations and all roads lead to Hull KR It certainly was an incredible atmosphere at Craven Park on Saturday night. Salford had plenty of early possession but just couldn’t crack the Hull Kingston Rovers defence. Defeat left the Red Devils in seventh place level on points with sixth place Warrington. The Wolves however have a superior points difference so it’s fairly simple now. Salford must get a better result than Warrington on Friday night. The unpredictable Huddersfield Giants host Warrington in a game that could quite easily go either way. Salford host Catalans and the French side are battling it out for top spot in the Super League so doubt they will be gunning for a big victory on Friday.  The Dragons battered Leeds in Perpignan last weekend 61-0.  Their is no doubt Salford are short of forwards. This was again very evident on Saturday. The bench looked lightweight with Danny Addy, Amir Bourouh and Chris Atkin

Devil In The Detail SRD · Golden point drama, Player of the year nominations and all roads lead to Hull KR Saturday nights all right for fighting, in the words of the song by Elton John. Both Hull Kingston Rovers and Salford were fighting for a place off spot. The Robins were in the box set, two points in front of Salford in fifth place but after Warrington lost at home to St.Helens on Friday night the Red Devils had destiny in their own hands. Victory would take Salford above Warrington and level on points with the Robins going in to the final round of matches next Friday. A 7:30pm kick off on a Saturday night is a pretty rare event in Rugby League. It seemed to add to the excitement and anticipation of both sets of supporters. Outside the ground the atmosphere was electric. These two sides have a bit of history between them in recent years and it’s fair to say Hull Kr have definitely had the upper hand in recent meeting between the two sides. The Robins have won eight of the last t

Devil In The Detail SRD · Golden point drama, Player of the year nominations and all roads lead to Hull KR Well what a finish we witnessed on Sunday to a terrific match. It was an eighty minutes full of excitement, end to end Rugby League and some fantastic tries. Salford had to beat Warrington to keep their season alive and now must do the same again this Saturday. With just points difference separating Warrington and Salford it couldn’t be much closer. If the Red Devils can beat the Robins on Saturday they would be level with them on points going into the last regular match of the season. Warrington play St.Helens at home on Friday night so it’s going to be another thrilling weekend of action.  I mentioned last week about suspensions and this week that subject is up for discussion again. Brad Singleton will miss the trip to East Hull after picking up a one game ban. In my opinion it’s getting ridiculous. Most of these tackles and challenges can be dealt with on the field by the ref

Devil In The Detail SRD · A wobble at Wigan as we try and reach new levels to keep playoff dreams alive After a week of red hot temperatures their were a few clouds around on Sunday to spare the players very slightly but it was still very warm and muggy for this lunch time kick off. Salford coach Paul Rowley was forced into making changes after suspension ruled out Kallum Watkins and Oliver Partington. The ever reliable Chris Atkin moved to loose forward with Ben Hellewell dropping into the second row. Amir Bourouh and Andrew Dixon were on the bench. Warrington had a pretty strong line up with Matt Dufty at full back. George Williams and Josh Drinkwater were the halves with Danny Walker at hooker. James Harrison the son of former Salford coach Karl started at loose forward with Daryl Clark on the bench. Matches between these two sides over the years have always been entertaining affairs and this match was another thriller. Salford got off to a poor start when Joe Burgess failed to de

Devil In The Detail SRD · A wobble at Wigan as we try and reach new levels to keep playoff dreams alive Paul Rowley and Kurt Haggerty are not quite Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid but it does feel like Salford are now drinking in the last chance Salon as far as the Playoffs are concerned. With three games left and two against their Play off rivals Warrington and Hull Kingston Rovers this Sunday might feel like the O.K Corral when the match kicks off. Warrington have been a huge enigma in 2023 and very hard to predict. They started the season in fine fettle with eight straight victories including a big win away to Catalans. Around Easter time cracks started appearing and after a comprehensive defeat at Leigh at the end of May the wolves managed just one win in eleven. The dismal form saw coach Daryl Powell leave the club and the 2023 season looked to be completely imploding.  A hard fought victory away to Hull was followed last weekend by a 66-12 dismantling of struggling Castlefor

Devil In The Detail SRD · In the mix for a playoff spot. Journey starts here Salford arrived at Wigan in good spirits and once again coach Paul Rowley was able to name an unchanged side and a strong one at that. The only change saw Adam Sidlow named as eighteenth man in place of Andrew Dixon.  It was another fine evening weather wise as the two sides warmed up prior to kick off. Kallum Watkins took a few knocks last Friday and his leg was heavily strapped up. The home side were missing Tyler Dupree after a head knock but had a strong pack including Liam Byrne, Liam Farrell and Kai Pearce-Paul. Jai Field started at fullback with Bevan French and Harry Smith in the halves. Salford had all the defending to do in the early stages and when Marc Sneyd went off in the twelfth minute holding his back the cards were starting to stack against the Red Devils.  French hit Sneyd’s replacement Chris Atkin with a tip tackle and these days those tackles seem to be frowned upon.
