Midlands 6 Swinton Lions 24 Match report
Swinton Lions traveled to Midland Hurricanes and recorded an impressive win.
Gavin Rodden powered over from close range for The Lions after 4 minutes, Jodie Gibson converted the try and Swinton Lead 6-0.
Swinton were on a roll and took full advantage when Eaves found space around the ruck with a lovely dart to crash over the line. Swinton Half back Jodie Gibson converted again the Lions were 12-0 up after 8 minutes.
Midland found some composure and after 20 minutes tested the Lions line for the 1st time. Good defence from the Blues stopped the Hurricanes getting on the scoreboard.
Shortly after Swinton showed lots of enthusiasm created pressure and after forcing a drop out they took full advantage of as Gavin Rodden showed good strength to power over for his 2nd try.
Jodie Gibson goaled again and Swinton were in control at 0-18.
Approaching Half time Midlands created a opportunity, crossing the line for a score, unfortunately for them the referee had judge that Brandon Moore had knock on and Swinton got to half time in control at 0-18.
Early 2nd half pressure from the Hurricanes was negotiated and Swinton again found themselves in an attacking position. Good play by Louis Robert caused chaos in the Midfield rear guard of the Hurricanes and Ellis Anderson showed great composure to score for the Lions on their right edge. Jodie Gibson goaled again and Swinton were leading 0-24.
Midlands knew this game was slipping away from them and started to push their passes, good defending and a timely interception by Adam Jones defused another Hurricane opportunity.
After 55 minutes Midlands registered their only try of the game when Aden Mcgowen found space in the Lion’s defence to score.
Swinton forward Samy Kibula showed his strength by bursting the Midland defence wide open, unfortunately the Hurricanes scrambling was good enough to defuse the danger.
Midland had more opportunities to score shortly after but Anderson showed great defensive strength to stop the score.
With 10 minutes to go Midland probed the Swinton defence looking for another score to get back in the contest but some fantastic Swinton defence kept the Hurricanes at bay and secured the points for the lions.
Head Coach Antony Mussy was pleased with his teams performance and only allowing the Hurricanes over for 1 try.
Swinton completed at 86% in the 1st half and 90% in the 2nd in attack shows the dominance his team had in the game.
Despite defeats in the last couple of weeks Swinton have competed in them games, a win against Midlands gives Swinton more confidence going forward as they face Keighley away on Sunday.
