Salford 16 Doncaster 44 Match report
A hat trick by Doncaster's Bureta Faraimo was enough for the side from South Yorkshire to pick up the points against Dave Hewitt's men on Sunday at the Copacq Stadium.
Dave Hewitt selected a strong line up with Kieran Dixon at Fullback, Toby Hughes and Lewis Pilling continuing at half back, Joe Baldwin starting at Hooker, Brad Dwyer and Owen Abel started on the bench.
Doncaster opened the scoring after 6 minutes when Alex Sutcliffe cut though the Salford defence from 10 metres, Connor Robinson converted and Doncaster lead 6-0.More pressure from Doncaster and they extended their lead further. After good work down the middle sucked the Salford defence in and let Bureta Faraimo in at the corner, conversion was missed 0-10 Doncaster.
On 14 minutes Salford kicked the ball out on the full from kick off, after some pressure and a Salford drop out Mitieli Vulikijapani fended off some desperate Salford defence to plan the ball down in the left corner.
Doncaster had the wind in their sales at this point Alex Sutcliffe got his 2nd of the game shortly after powering over again on the right hand side of the field and Salford trailed 0-22 after 22 minutes.
Brad Dwyer entered the field and Salford started building pressure of their own and were reward with a try by Toby Hughes, good work by Joe Hartley and Brad Dwyer put Salford in good field position and Toby Hughes stepped his way over from close range. Keiron Dixon goaled and Salford were on the score sheet 6-22 after 26 minutes.
Salford had found their feet in the contest, good work down the middle asked questions of the Doncaster defence with an opportunity for Lewis Pilling who was unable to keep hold of the ball in contact as the line beckoned.
After the error Doncaster went up the other end of the field and scored, a break from Fariamo allowed fullback Thomas Holmes to score and extend Doncaster's lead.

Hewitt's men knew that the next score was crucial and on on 37
minutes Salford found a way though the Doncaster defence, executed a
flowing move from left to right winger Jacob Douglas found the
outside with a 40 metre break showed great
composure to feed Toby Hughes who scored his 2nd try of the game.
The 2nd half started well for Salford lots of pressure put on Doncaster by the Reds resulted in a grubber kick by Brad Dwyer who found Oli Garmston who ground the ball in front of the South Stand, Kieran Dixon missed the conversion but Salford had started to climb the mountain 16-28.
Salford had all the momentum and showed plenty of good touches, a weaving 40 metre run by Jacob Douglas catching a big kick from Doncaster on his own line got the Salford Supporters on their feet. In defence Salford started to rattle Doncaster. Owen Abel with a crunching tackle forced a error which Salford nearly took advantage of as good hands sent Garmston careering for the line. Unfortunately for Salford with numbers in their favour the chance went begging and Doncaster breathed a huge sigh of relief
The chances kept coming for Salford a 40 metre break by Lewis Pilling cut the Doncaster defence in half unfortunately for him and Salford the ball went to ground, moments later winger Douglas nearly capped a good performance with a try of his own but for a desperate Doncaster defence cranked the pressure and the ball was bounced in the act of scoring.
One minute later Doncaster provided the killer blow as Bureta Faraimo showed strength as the ball was moved from right to left and despite desperate defence the winger rolled over the line 16-32 Doncaster. Roberts failed with the conversion.
Salford stayed in the arm wrestle and retrieved the kick off to put Doncaster under more pressure again, a mixture of desperate Doncaster defence and frantic Salford attack prevented a score twice with Able and Douglas again going close for Dave Hewitt's men.
Watson Boas got on the score sheet as the time ticked away for Doncaster with a long range effort despite efforts from Jack Bibby and Keiron Dixon to try and stop the winger, Bureta Faraimo completed his hat trick in the dying seconds of the game and they returned to South Yorkshire with the points.
It was a good performance in defeat by Dave Hewitt's men, Doncaster are a big side with lots of Super League experience. A marked improvement from the last two games against Doncaster which resulted in two blow out score lines, this show the progress this group of players have made under Dave Hewitt.
Toby Hughes with two tries and his link up play with Lewis Pilling in the half's is a promising, both showed plenty of promise in the game. Winger Jacob Douglas also could have scored a couple on another day but the Reds played with heart and commitment to the cause and as Supporters that is all we can ask for.
